FAQs

Attempting to navigate the wiki for novice users can be frustrating. Very much unlike our former phpBB forum, the wiki employs both a top menu and sidebar, enabling easy access for the users, but creating confusion for those new to the wiki style. In order to aide our members, we've created the following tutorial:

Where are my preferences?

Users can access their preferences in two ways:

  1. Using the sidebar menu, click on the MyTiki? folder (if it isn't expanded) and find it listed below.
  2. Clicking your username at the top-right corner of any page. Once your account page opens, you'll find a Preferences button near the top of the page.

How do I create my avatar?

Avatars are currently giving us fits. In the meantime, The fabulous Miss Em has found a way around it! :-)

  1. Upload your image to the file gallery using your username the file title.
  2. If an admin catches it, we can do the rest for you. If not, send a PM to either Emimi(external link) or LordVoldescootch(external link).

Restricted Forums

  • Information regarding the Restricted Forums can be found here(external link).

Friendship Network and User List

Where is the User List?

The User List (formerly known as Member List) is located on the sidebar menu under Community.

How do I friend another member?

  • Either using the User List or by clicking on another member's name, you may access their User Information.
  • At the bottom of their User Information, there is a link to Request Friendship from this User.
  • You may cancel your request at any time prior to their acceptance.
  • You may delete a friend from your network by clicking Friendship Network under Community on the sidebar and deleting their username from your list.

What is Notepad?

Notepad is a wiki application that allows the user to create and save rough text-only drafts of both wikis and text. Users familiar with wiki syntax(external link) can also input their own formatting, which will show up upon saving the file. Drafts may be saved repeatedly. This application is particularly useful for those writing wikis(external link) or articles(external link).

Uploading Files

  • Access to User Galleries is located on the sidebar, under File Galleries.

What is the scoring system?

Users are given points for things they do in the site, like writing an article, reading an article, starting a new topic in forum, voting a poll, etc. They also earn points by being popular, like having his/her blogs and articles read and commented. Then the users will be able to see their position in a ranking.

Which areas of the site are public?

Out of our forums, only the following are public and Googleable:

Wikis and Articles are public and searchable.

Quoting another poster

As of right now, there is no automatic way to quote another poster in the forums or in the comments on the wikis/articles. However, using a little wiki syntax, you can make a box around the text you want to quote.

  1. 1. Copy the text you want to quote.
  2. 2. Type the uparrow button (Shift/6), paste the text, and end with another uparrow (Shift/6).
  3. 3. Snazzy, eh?
